A natural harbour since Antiquity, sheltered by a sheer cliff, Monaco was initially occupied by the Ligurians and then by the Romans followed by the Barbarians.
The Genoese Grimaldi family settled there definitively in 1297. Its descendants, Lords and Princes, have been reigning Monaco for over 700 years!
